Poach An Egg In A Microwave

The speediest way (not the best way) to poach an egg - in the microwave! Great hack for work lunches when you want a freshly poached egg.

Key Details

  • Serves: 1
  • Prep time: 1 minute
  • Cook time: 2 minutes
  • Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp cider vinegar
  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 tsp cider vinegar
  • 1 egg

Fill a microwave-safe cup or bowl with water from the tap as hot as you can make it.

Add 1/2 tsp of cider vinegar.

Slowly break an egg into the bowl. Be sure the eggs are fully submerged in the water to avoid popping! I then blast it on high at 30-second intervals for 2-3 minutes. This can depend on how hot the water is. You can tell by removing it with a slotted spoon – if it has gone opaque but jiggles a little, you’ve nailed it.
