It's a sandwich shop favourite you can make at home! Alternatively, use this delicious meatball mix on pasta for the perfect midweek meal.
Ingredients
- 1 onion
- 250g beef mince
- 250g pork mince
- 1 heaped tsp fresh rosemary
- 1 heaped tsp fresh thyme
- 1 heaped tsp fresh oregano
- handful of breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- salt & pepper to season
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1/2 onion
- 1kg jar of passata
- 1 tsp dried chilli flakes
- 2 stalks of fresh basil leaves
- salt & pepper to season
Meatballs
- 1 onion
- 250g beef mince
- 250g pork mince
- 1 heaped tsp fresh rosemary

Finely chop and soften your onions with a sprinkle of salt in a pan on medium-low heat. Leave to cool before adding to a bowl with your mince, finely chopped herbs, breadcrumbs, egg and seasoning.
Roll your mix into ping pong sized balls. Seal in a pan on high heat (so they are coloured on all sides) and remove. Using the same pan make your passata…
Passata
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1/2 onion
- 1kg jar of passata
- 1 tsp dried chilli flakes
- 2 stalks of fresh basil leaves
- salt & pepper to season
Finely dice your onion and soften in 1 tbsp oil with 2 squashed garlic cloves for 4-5 minutes. Remove the garlic cloves and add the passata and chilli flakes.
Blip for 5 – 10 minutes on medium heat, and reduce to almost desired consistency.
Add the meatballs, cover with a lid on and roast for 15 minutes at 200°C/400°F/gas 6.
Stir in fresh basil, season and spoon onto ciabatta or pasta!
